• Solid concrete sleepers outperform wooden sleepers in terms of stability on smooth lines by 15-20%. As a result, it is particularly well suited for high-speed passenger lines.
Of course, concrete sleepers have disadvantages, particularly weights that are substantially heavier than wooden sleepers. As a result, it is not suitable for use in unstable roadbeds or new roadbeds; in areas with frost heaving in the winter, concrete sleepers are generally not permitted; and it is best not to use large quantities of concrete sleepers in railway sections for coal and ore transportation or heavily polluted road beds.
